In July 2016 Japan’s national R&D management body known as the “New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization” (or NEDO) announced as part of it’s “Crosscutting Technology Development Project to Promote IoT” that it would focus on extremely low power implementations of systems capable of collection, storage, and analysis of data.

The focus of this work will be collaboration between industry and academia in the areas of low power consumption, size reduction and autonomous power generation with the objective of realizing very low power sensor modules for data collection required to support new applications in the IoT era.
